REASON has 6 letters → 6 − 1 = 5.
BELIEVED has 8 letters → 8 − 1 = 7.

NE shifts to SE → meaning directions rotate 90° clockwise.
Apply 90° clockwise:
North-West → West → South-West → South → South-East → East → North-East → North
We look at options:
North-West → East? No (NW → West).
South → South-West? No (South → South-East).
West → North? No (West → North). Wait — check:
West rotated 90° clockwise = North → correct.
